There will never be another band as big as The Beatles

Laughed at this yet?

Now, I'm not going to be all curmudgeonly and lambaste these kids for not knowing who Paul McCartney is.  The point I want to make is that it shouldn't be a surprise that they don't know who he is.

There is more media, from more sources available today than ever before.  As a result, our entertainment awareness has the potential to be fractured.  I doubt we will ever see a time again when the vast majority (high 90th percentile) knows of a specific artists work.   It is simply too easy to lock yourself in a little entertainment and media bubble.

This is another example of the kind of thing commonly being worried about when it comes to narrowly focused media and news sources.  We can wrap ourselves in our personalized interests to a degree never before possible.

What is this going to do to the future of art of all forms?  Can we ever expect to have the cultural homogeneity we had in years past?  Is this going to cause even more tribalism and division than we already have?
